Arts, Culture and Heritage Policies
Investing in Esports has strong social and economical value. It has the potential increase tourism, commercial opportunities and jobs. Overall contributing to the social and economic sustainability of New Zealand.
1
The building of a sustainable, top-to-bottom structure for NZ Esports
There is currently little to no Esport scene here in NZ while the rest of the world is moving forward and implementing Esports into their economy and have seen great success in countries like Denmark, Switzerland, and South Korea (Statista, n.d.). To compete with these major countries, the Otter Party will strengthen our national talent development. Support and guidance will be provided to Kiwis pursuing a career in Esports, putting New Zealand in the map for International Esports Competitions.
2
Establishing a common vision for Esports' integrity
Rules and regulations must be set up to prevent any tackling, toxicity, cheating, and skin gambling to take place in New Zealand. Countries that failed to have a solid foundation of rules and regulations take advantage of this and extort their players. The Otter Party will not tolerate any injustice or violation of their rights as players. We will set up a system where the players, organizations, and economy will benefit in a fair and just way.
3
Creating commercial development opportunities
The Otter Party strives to create a good commercial development opportunities for growth, entrepreneurship, and employment for Esports in NZ. In fact in 2023 alone, Esports is expected to generate 1.6 billion dollars in revenue globally (CNA, 2022). Esports not only bring joy to viewers all around the world but also brings a lot of employment opportunities such as game casters, analysts, health trainers, etc, and even provide a platform for NZ arts, culture, and heritage to be performed and displayed on a stage where millions of people are watching both online and in person.
4
Revision of laws
Revision of laws that could help further support the development of Esports such as our rules and regulations. Our immigration laws would also change as well to make acquiring a VISA to New Zealand a pleasant and fast process as currently, the current process takes way too long and there is not much support being provided to people asking for advice. We will make sure to increase the number of staff, set an inquiry email clearly on the NZ Immigration website, and other help and support.
